Home delivery a big sales driver for Florida medical marijuana companies

Florida medical cannabis producers are seeing increased sales thanks to their ability to deliver products to customers at home.

Some companies report that up to 50% of their sales stems from home deliveries, according to the Fort Myers News-Press.

Florida has 28 operational MMJ dispensaries in the state as of this week, the newspaper reported.

But many of the state’s 83,000 registered MMJ patients still live an hour or more from a brick-and-mortar dispensary, meaning home deliveries can be an attractive option for customers.

One MMJ company, Surterra Wellness, told the News-Press that it performs 10-20 home deliveries daily from each of its four dispensaries.

Another Florida MMJ company, Trulieve, said up to 70% of its sales initially came through deliveries.

However, that number has dipped as more dispensaries have opened.

Still, the Florida trend is an indication that home delivery options are likely to prove a lucrative field in the future for cannabis retailers – as long as their local jurisdictions allow for it.

Delivery businesses are still prohibited in most U.S. marijuana markets.
