Vermont Lawmakers Could Revive Marijuana Legalization Effort This Week

Medible review vermont lawmakers could revive marijuana legalization effort this week

Lawmakers in Vermont are expected to take up a revised marijuana legalization bill, Senate Bill 22, in early January, possibly as early as this week.

Gov. Phil Scott (R) had vetoed the bill over concerns around drugged driving and youth use after passing both chambers of the legislature last year.

Lawmakers in the Senate amended the bill to assuage Scott’s concerns and managed to get the amended bill through the Senate, only to see House Republicans refuse to let it come to a vote during the one-day veto session last year.

The bill would legalize the possession and cultivation of small amounts of marijuana, but not allow retail sales.

Vermont’s 2018 legislative session begins Wednesday.
