CBD sales begin in Texas’ restrictive industry

Texas now has at least one registered CBD patient.

According to a news release, Cansortium Texas – which does business as Knox Medical in the town of Schulenburg – made its first actual sale on Thursday to the family of a 6-year-old girl with intractable epilepsy.

Medible review cbd sales begin in texas restrictive industry“The wait for medical cannabis is finally over,” Knox Medical CEO Jose Hidalgo said in the release. “This is a historic day for Texas.”

Cansortium is one of the state’s three licensed CBD producers.

As recently as a week ago, Texas didn’t have a single registered patient, an ominous start to the huge state’s restrictive CBD industry, which operates under a law passed nearly three years ago.

The Texas program allows patients to obtain CBD oil only to treat epilepsy.

That means the patient base will likely remain quite small unless the qualifying condition list is expanded at some point, or if more physicians sign up to recommend CBD. Currently, only 11 physicians in the state are registered.

Knox Medical did note there are roughly 150,000 epileptics in Texas who would qualify for CBD.

A second dispensary, Compassionate Cultivation, will begin CBD sales Feb. 8, The Texas Tribune reported.
